Privacy Policy
This policy explains what Storm Stream collects, why we collect it, and the choices you have. Storm Stream is a weather-intelligence product operated as a Vyan product. We watch the United States National Weather Service and NOAA wire around the clock and tell you when severe weather crosses a place you care about. We kept this short and plain on purpose.
01Who we are, and how to reach us
Storm Stream provides severe-weather event data, alerts, street-level maps, reports, and an API. For any privacy question, or to see, correct, export, or delete your data, email support@stormstream.io. (We are still setting this inbox up, so please allow a little time for a reply.)
02What we collect, and why
We collect only what we need to run the service and send you the alerts you asked for.
- Your nameFirst and last name, so we can address you and put your name on the reports you generate.
- Email addressTo send the alerts you signed up for, the confirmation link, and account messages. This is the address we watch storms for.
- ZIP codes you watchThe heart of the service. We match severe-weather events against the ZIP codes you tell us to watch.
- Business name (optional)Only if you choose to give it. It helps label your reports and understand who uses Storm Stream.
- Signup attributionWhen you sign up we record how you arrived: the referring page and any UTM parameters in the link you followed. This tells us which of our own efforts are working. It is never sold or shared for advertising.
03Payments
When you subscribe to a paid plan, your payment is processed by Stripe. Storm Stream never sees or stores your full card number. Stripe handles the card details directly and tells us only whether a payment succeeded and which plan you are on. Stripe's own privacy terms govern the card data it holds.
04Cookies
Storm Stream uses a small number of functional cookies. It does not use third-party advertising or cross-site tracking cookies, and it does not run ad networks or tracking pixels.
storm_accessKeeps you signed in to the map app after you confirm your email. Session and access only.storm_founderRemembers a founding-member session so your account shows the right access. Session and access only.
That is the whole list.
05The companies that help us run Storm Stream
To run the service we share the minimum necessary data with a short list of providers. Each one processes data only to do its job for us.
- StripeProcesses subscription payments. Storm Stream never stores full card numbers.
- ResendDelivers our transactional and opt-in email: confirmation links, storm alerts, and account messages.
- CloudflareHosts Storm Stream and provides content delivery and security at the edge.
- National Weather Service / NOAAThe United States government source for the weather data itself. We read it. We do not send any of your personal data to them.
- The interactive mapLeaflet (the open-source map library), CARTO (base map tiles), and RainViewer (radar tiles) draw the map you see. OpenStreetMap Nominatim turns a ZIP code into a location so we can center the map. These receive only the technical requests needed to render the map, not your account details.
06Email, consent, and unsubscribe
Email is double opt-in. After you sign up we send one confirmation link, and we only start sending alerts once you click it. Every message we send includes a one-click unsubscribe link. Unsubscribing stops the email right away.
07How long we keep your data
We keep your account information and watched ZIP codes for as long as your account is open. If you unsubscribe, we stop sending email. If you ask us to delete your account, we remove your personal data. To delete your account or your data, email support@stormstream.io.
08Your rights
You can ask us to:
- Access. Get a copy of the personal data we hold about you.
- Correct. Fix anything that is wrong.
- Delete. Remove your account and personal data.
- Export. Receive your data in a portable form.
Email support@stormstream.io and we will take care of it. No fee, no hoops.
09Children
Storm Stream is a tool for operators and homeowners. It is not directed to children and is not intended for anyone under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children under 13. If you believe a child has given us data, email support@stormstream.io and we will delete it.
10How we protect your data
We serve everything over encrypted connections, keep access to your data limited, and lean on established providers (Stripe, Cloudflare, Resend) for the parts they do best. No online service can promise perfect security, but we treat your data as if it were our own.
11Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we will update the effective date at the top and, for anything that materially affects you, tell you by email or a notice on the site. Continuing to use Storm Stream after a change means you accept the updated policy.
